In this week’s #socialimpactpowerchat, I had the great pleasure to speak with Curran Hughes, President and Co-founder of Renegade Plastics. Like so many of our guests, Curran got his professional start in the nonprofit world. Years later, he’s bringing that same ethos to his role as a founder. Renegade Plastics, which aims to prove that plastics can be both sustainable and good business, is proving it is possible to eliminate toxic and unsustainable plastics from the supply chain. Collaboration is key, and progress requires both vision and practicality. By automating processes and fostering internal coalitions, even smaller teams can make big waves.

Christina Beckman, Senior Manager of Environmental Social Governance (ESG) at Culligan International, discusses the company's commitment to sustainability, with a focus on water filtration and softening. 

Christina advises how best to establish a corporate social impact program, emphasizing the importance of first going on a listening tour within the organization. Christina makes the case that ESG programs should be #communityfirst by aligning company resources with the actual needs of the populations they serve.

This episode concludes with a look into the future of #socialimpact, in which Christina anticipates the growing influence of regulations, especially in areas like financial data and carbon emissions. Rather than conceptualizing these increased regulations as a business burden, she imagines they will actually bolster the support and justification of CSR initiatives.
